Primary Music Program
The music program at Salmo Elementary School is based on research showing that music education fosters cognitive development and enhances learning across the educational and social/emotional spectrums. We offer an Orff Schulwerk developmental approach that combines movement, singing, Orff instruments, improvisation, and play.
Additionally, concepts from the Kodaly method focusing on vocal training with hand signs for notes, syllables and beats are used. The skills developed can then be transferred to the formal reading and writing of music. Children learn most effectively when they are relaxed and having fun, and this is what music class is all about! We look forward to seeing the unique and creative ideas that the students will express.
