We acknowledge, respect, and honour the First Nations in whose traditional territories the Kootenay Lake School District operates, and all Aboriginal people residing within the boundaries of School District 8.

Aboriginal Education at Salmo Elementary supports self-identified Aboriginal students guided by the school district goals. We honour and respect the many traditions of Metis, First Nations and Inuit families. The diversity within our school, and the school district, is wide and we celebrate an inclusive, whole school approach to Aboriginal education. Program goals include academic, emotional and family support, cultural learning opportunities and fun land-based learning opportunities, or a (virtual) visit from an elder or knowledge keeper.

Please see the District Aboriginal Education page for more information.

Contact the school if you wish to opt in your children to our local programming.
