Welcome to the 2022-23 School Year!

Dear parents/guardians,

I trust you have had a very restful and fun summer!

We are looking forward to welcoming your children back to school next week on Tuesday, September 6. Here is some information for you prior to the start of school.

First day – Tuesday, September 7

*Please note this is an early dismissal day and busses will be running 3 hours earlier. Therefore, the dismissal bell will be at 11:45am.

Bell Schedule – Our bell schedule has been slightly amended. Please note our start time has moved to 8:45 am and dismissal is at 2:45. Bus students arrive at 8:25 and we ask that walkers and those students arriving by car arrive after 8:35. You can find more information regarding the school day schedule on our website: https://ses.sd8.bc.ca/about/bell-schedule

If you need to register for the bus, you can do so at this link:

https://www.sd8.bc.ca/schools/busing-transportation

*Please note: all bus students must register yearly, so please ensure you register again even if your child rode the bus last year.

School Supplies – All school supplies are provided by the school for a $40 fee. This can be paid by cash/cheque/debit at the school office, or easily online through this link: https://ses.sd8.bc.ca/pay.  We only ask you please send your child with non-marking indoor shoes and a personal water bottle, as well as other personal items such as a lunch kit, backpack, and appropriate outdoor clothing.

COVID return to school – We are pleased to be returning to more generally expected school routines! You can see the most recently updated Covid Guidelines for schools here: https://www2.gov.bc.ca/assets/gov/education/administration/kindergarten-to-grade-12/safe-caring-orderly/k-12-covid-19-health-safety-guidelines.pdf

A continued practice will be to conduct a daily health check and please do not send your child(ren) to school when they are sick. Masks will no longer be mandatory, but can be used, if needed. They will be readily available for those who wish to use one.

Enrolment – To help us accurately anticipate how many students are returning to school, please let us know if there has been any change in your situation over the summer. Please contact our office to let us know if you have moved or will not be returning to Salmo Elementary School.

School App – Stay connected to our school by using the school app on your phone! You can report absences, make a payment, read our news updates, and receive notifications in one handy place. Here is the link to more information: https://www.sd8.bc.ca/node/42892

That is all for now! We are eagerly looking forward to welcoming your children back to school. You can expect to hear later this week your child(ren)’s class assignments.

Many thanks to our custodians who have worked so hard over the summer to make our school look great when students return. Teachers have also been busy preparing for a new school year and are looking forward to building community in their classrooms and meeting new students.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, and I look forward to seeing you next week!

With warm regards,

Dawn Snell,

Principal
