Spring Term Planning

Image

Dear families,

Welcome back from another long weekend! Teachers had a productive day yesterday learning together and focusing on indigenization and truth and reconciliation. We value the time spent to focus on what we are doing to recognize the lived stories of Indigenous peoples in our areas and steps we are taking to support Indigenous students and learning in our school.

We now here almost at the end of April and are well underway in our spring term! It is hard to believe how quickly the school year has passed. There is still much to do between now and the end of June and teachers and students will be busy.

Planning is already underway for next year. Could you help us in a few ways?

  1. First, please let us know if there will be any changes to your enrolment. For instance, if you will be moving, or if you have a younger student joining the school. This will help us with planning for our classroom configurations.

  1. Secondly, could you provide your feedback about the learning experience of students in our school by completing the 2022/23 Student Learning Survey?

The Provincial Student Learning Survey gathers information on topics related to school environment, safety, and achievement. Your feedback will help us as we develop plans for next year.

Please take a few minutes to complete the anonymous survey any time before 11:59 pm April 29th, 2023. Your participation is very much appreciated! Thank you in advance.

To complete the survey:

  1. Go to any computer that has an up-to-date internet browser access at home, work, or school.
  2. Go to http://www.bced.gov.bc.ca/sat_survey/access.htm
  3. Scroll down to the “parents” section
  4. Under the section Direct Access – no logon number required select:
    • District: SD8 – Kootenay Lake
    • School: Salmo Elementary
    • Language: the language of your choice
  5. Complete the survey by clicking on the appropriate circle to answer each question. Move to the next set of questions by clicking on the right arrow in the bottom right corner of the screen. Click on the left arrow to navigate backwards.
  6. When you are finished the survey, you will get a message “Thank you for sharing your views”.

  1. Finally, the DRAFT SD8 Strategic Plan is now available. Please visit the website to review and provide further feedback: https://engage.sd8.bc.ca/sd8-strategic-plan

This week we have point of progress reports going home. Following that, next week will be early dismissal days where you will have an opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher. Please make sure to make an appointment to discuss your child’s progress.

That’s all for today! Thank you again so much for your partnership in your child’s learning and with our school.

Principal
