September Update at Salmo Elementary

SES has had a great first month of school.

We have been having our weekly assemblies where, as well as welcoming and introducing new students and staff we reviewed the Grandfather teaching of respect and introduced the Virtue of Purposefulness from Kavelin Popoff’s Book of Virtues. These virtues are taught for the month by all teachers and students work to hold themselves accountable to them.

Golden Trophy: in efforts to help the custodians support learning through well-kept facilities, we have acquired (Dollar store $1.50) two golden trophies which are awarded each Friday night to the Primary and Intermediate classes who have had the cleanest and tidiest classroom for the week. This simple thing has made a huge difference to cloak areas and classrooms! Thank you all!

We are also grateful to District Inclusion Support Teacher Kiera Angus who has spent time with teachers to share structures, strategies, and assistive technology to support educators, educational assistants and learners so they can thrive here at Salmo Elementary.

We have great team of educational assistants who are spelling each other off when needed, sharing insights and collaborating to support students. Thank you!

Supervision schedules are set as teachers, EAs, the principal (me) and IST have got it covered with radios and good communication.

Our breakfast program is up and running and we are making the necessary lunches for students daily, and snacks and fresh fruit and vegetables are available daily for all students.

We're looking forward to some improvements to our field this fall including seeding and filling of some holes as staff have the opportunity.

This is a great team here at Salmo Elementary from our staff to our students to our district staff to the trustees who serve on the Board of Education. I'm looking forward to a wonderful year!
