The School Year is Off to a Great Start

Salmo Elementary is off to a great start. We are optimistic about the upcoming year.

Our initial goals have been stability and consistency as well as making sure we are well staffed so everyone in our school is ready to support students and families, from teachers to our educational assistant, custodians, bus drivers, clerical staff and me, your interim principal.

We are extremely fortunate to have outstanding staff who are ready and available to students while our school settles into the yearly rhythm. We have built enough flexibility into our school schedules to support prime learning time so our students can explore, connect and discover as they follow their journey to becoming lifelong learners.

Our breakfast program is up and running and it was a pleasure to have District Feeding Futures Advisor Kelly McCafferty join us for a morning to work in the kitchen and help us navigate food procurement and payment.

Our first theme of the month in SES is Kindness and staff and students have bought into this whole-heartedly. See the pictures below for some examples. Most notably I witnessed students go out of their way to include everyone in their game of football outside.

Our annual Terry Fox run and cross-country running club are now combined activities with Salmo Secondary School to build interest across both schools and foster mentorship and camaraderie among all students across the grades.

In all, it has been a good start up with an outstanding team and I am excited for all of us to work together and support one another for a superb year.
