Salmo Elementary Egg Drop

This past April 24th on a Friday…the week had been hectic at our little school and the planets have been testing us all and yet…

The sun shone on over 80 students at school with a variety of contraptions that they had designed and made to protect a raw egg from a 60 foot drop from a crane basket.

Pete from Pete’s cranes arrived and set up.Students brought their contraptions to the ramp where other students loaded them into the basket.  Finally, the hapless Mr. Caulford was strapped into the basket and hoisted into the sky from where he called the name of the student who made the contraption and tossed it into space.

There were whirly gigs, rockets, eggs suspended on elastic bands, wrapped in diapers and bubble wrap. Community members cheered and groaned along with students as contraptions shattered and eggs survived.

Meanwhile Myka was inspecting the wreckages and status of eggs within and awarding appropriate certificates for "Participant" or “My Egg Survived” along with mini prizes.

Two full loads and two late-comer contraptions were tossed into space and finally, after the last one was tossed, Mr. Caulford returned to Earth, Pete packed up his crane and students helped clean up the scrambled mess.

All in all, a wonderful sunny spring morning of learning and community at Salmo Elementary!

Thanks to all our staff, students, families and community volunteers who participated.
