Frank's Facebook Fiasco

This month,  Salmo Elementary students learned about responsible use of technology in a fun and engaging way through the Franks Facebook Fiasco story walk. Hosted by BC Responsible Gambling and CBAL (Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy), the story walk was set up around our school yard, and students moved through each station with a facilitated conversation about technology, social media, and video games.  At the end, there was a craft activity, and each student was given a mini-version of the story and a bag with pencils and notebooks.

StoryWalk® is a fun, educational activity that promotes literacy and physical activity by following the story of our friend Frank the grizzly bear in his adventures and recently developed interest in social media and online game play using a smartphone.

This initiative promotes discussion and reflection on our relationship with technology.

Follow Frank as he learns about reward systems embedded in online games and social media which resemble gambling features. Frank’s Facebook Fiasco provides an opportunity to learn about and discuss risk-taking, self-regulation, peer pressure, and safer use of digital devices.
