Wildsight Adventures

We are so thrilled to be one of the classes chosen to take a journey with Wildsight’s Through the Seasons mentorship program this year.  Students were excited to meet Fairywinkle, as she met with us for first of four half-day field trips.  She inspired awe and excitement in the students as she shared a story, sent them on a colour hunt with magnifying glasses, shared with them the chick-a-dee call, and provided opportunity for each one to find a tree friend (sit spots) for students to return to as the seasons change.  We were able to take a moment at our sit spots to stop and smell the air, look at the environment close up, listen to the sounds of the wind in the trees, and to feel the beauty of the autumn weather on our faces.  She left us with a season wheel which we are excited fill in.  We’ll post a picture when we are done in June!  Fairywinkle will continue to provide ideas and support to Mrs MacInnis to continue to “weave the magic of the changing seasons through the whole year!”  Thank you, Wildsight!

The grade 3/4 class had a wonderful time with amazing Wildsight Educator "Fairywinkle" last week exploring "Nature through the Seasons". We learned why leaves change color and learned cool words like xylem and phloem. We played tree tag and performed our best tree poses. Fairywinkle sent us on a fun scavenger hunt where we found things that were green, chewed, a bird eats, smooth and rough, and much more! We then explored fall/winter seeds and buds, as well as composting dirt. Finally, we sat with a tree of our choice and had a silent conversation about the tree's feelings about losing its leaves for the winter!  It was decided that some trees feel pretty naked, while others enjoy the deep winter's sleep. We look forward to completing our giant seasonal wheel which includes months of the year, and the First people's perspective of the 4 seasonal aspects of mind, body, spirit and heart, as well as the thirteen moons. We look forward to the visit of the winter fairy next time so we can go outside and learn!
