Orange Shirt Day

Students at Salmo Elementary really showed up for Orange Shirt Day! To show their support for National Truth and Reconciliation, there was a sea of Orange Shirts on September 29. Through their learning about truth and reconciliation the week before, students were able to identify words and actions that demonstrate their commitment. They put these words/phrases on leaves and attached them to our reconciliation tree in our main foyer. Throughout the day the learning continued. We started with an assembly during which we sang O’Canada in Cree, and watched a video from the founder of Orange Shirt Day, Phyllis Webstad. Then, to show our solidarity, the school walked throughout the village of Salmo showing our orange shirts. Many thanks to all our teachers for their dedication to moving forward actions of truth and reconciliation, and to our students who continuously show hearts full of compassion and care for others.
