It's been a learning journey for students during Metis Awareness Month so far at SES! The intermediate classes learned a lot about Louis Riel, the uses of the sash, modern jigging and many other aspects of the rich Metis culture. We even sampled some bannock! We read lots of Metis storybooks and used Leah Dorion's book, The Giving Tree to explore the 12 Red River Cart Metis teachings and made a giant Red River cart wheel full of art and connections. Other students designed and colored a picture story called "I am Metis" which tells a short story about Metis people. We zoomed into a couple of valuable teachings with local Metis knowledge keepers too!
