Archery at Salmo Elementary School

Students at Salmo Elementary recently had a chance to learn an ancient sport and skill that requires control, precision, self-reliance and patience as it has for millennia: archery.

Archery has been practiced by humankind for as long as 72,000 years, and is a core skill throughout human history. Archery is an Olympic sport, with multiple disciplines including Recurve Target, Compound Target, Barebow and Compound Field Target.

Many thanks to instructor Marty, whose qualifications and adherence to strict safety rules for everyone allowed children to enjoy this wonderful sport and test their own strength and concentration while they worked on their stance, technique and aim.

Getting a bull's eye (also known as "gold") is harder than it looks!
