September 2020 here we are!  Hello everyone and welcome to another school year journey. I am so happy to be back at SES and surrounded by the buzz of students and the comfort of friends and an incredible staff. I would like to introduce a program I am exploring this year, Social Thinking by Michelle Garcia Winner, which will help our students become flexible social thinkers and social problem solvers.  Social Thinking:  Me + You = Us. We don't often stop and think about how we become social beings. Paying attention, cooperating, showing respect, being part of a group are complex social concepts that seem to be acquired indirectly, seemingly intuitively. Not everyone has a brain that processes or makes sense of the thousands of bits of social information that surrounds us every day. The students will learn about the social mind, social expectations, their own thinking and that of others, engaging in perspective taking to help make good decisions. We will take a look at these abstract concepts through story, music, vocabulary and role play in a mindful and sequential manner. We'll be learning slow and deep!  Please watch for information coming home as I start out with the primary grades.  Any questions, please feel free to contact me  kathy.speirs@sd8.bc.ca

And not forgetting about Covid 19 :

It is important to remember that it is normal to be emotionally affected by events like wide-spread illnesses, and that there are steps we can take to help us cope. The following site from the Canadian Psychological Association provides some information about the psychological impact of Covid 19.
